Do you or someone you know say, “I’m really busy!”, all the time? Hearing that is incredibly frustrating to most people. What they/you should be saying is, “That’s not in my priorities right now.” It’s blunt, but it’s true. Knowing where your time goes is crucial. I budget my time like money. Although, unlike money, you can’t make more time. We all have the same 24 hours in our day, it’s up to you to allocate them in the most beneficial way. Do you sleep too much? Do you watch too much tv or Netflix? How much time do you spend on your phone? How much of your time do you spend on activities that are beneficial to your success? These are all important questions you need to ask yourself when you reflect on the time you’ve spent. When using time, you can waste it or invest it. Wasting it would be sleeping 14 hours and then watching Netflix. Investing it would be sleeping 7 hours, reading, listening to a podcast, working out, etc. Do the things that progress you to the person you want to be. Are the things you’re doing getting you closer to your goals or further away from them?
If you don’t take time management seriously, you shouldn’t be surprised when 50 years fly by and you’ve accomplished nothing. Time management skills are essential in all aspects of life. Some strategies that I use to keep my time managed are keeping a time block calendar, setting critical tasks for the day, and minimize distractions. You’d be surprised how your overall productivity skyrockets when you manage your time.
